May Newsletter and Meetings (plus DAY meetings)

hi all!
the May newsletter is now available to members here.

A few things to note –

  • Canberra daytime meetings!!! Yay!!! Thats correct, our first daytime meeting for a long time is on Wed 23-May. See my Desktop for details. I’ll email again closer to the day to remind you.
  • Don’t forget our e-book library, or use our discount code to buy anything at 30% off (and we also have a discount code on the last page of the newsletter for O’Reilly technical books).
  • One of our main benefits is our opt-in General Help email list. You can send any Mac or i-device question (or even just general discussion) to this list and you will normally get a response from other members within the hour. Your question gets seen by everyone on the list and you will usually get answers from multiple people. Likewise you see everyone else’s questions, giving you a good way to learn from the experience of others. Your email address is distributed with your question, however note that it is not open to the public – only paid-up ACTApple members are on the list. See the newsletter for more details and to subscribe.

    Enjoy,
    regards

April Newsletter & Meetings

hi all!
April newsletter is now available to members here.

A few things to note:

  • tons of tips this month!! Some excellent usage info from the last Port meeting,  a hidden gem(!) in iBooks from Martina, and of course the always overflowing tips pages from Pete (especially good security links in there this month).
  • and don’t forget our e-book library, or use our discount code to buy anything at 30% off (and we also have a discount code on the last page for O’Reilly technical books).
  • you’ll have seen Facebook in the news recently. We have an excellent ‘how to’ document by Sandra in Port Mac about securing your Facebook account. I’d sent this around a few months ago, but will do so again in a separate email.
  • Seniors expo’s on again – if you have a friend struggling with their tech why not bring them along to our meeting? The don’t have to join but usually do eventually 🙂 We get a lot of members through word of mouth.

I’m up in Port for the next meeting, details inside and I’ll also send around an email for those who want to prepare for the afternoon sessions.

Enjoy,
Regards

October Newsletter & Meetings

hi all!
the October newsletter is now available for members.

We have a bit of variety at our meetings this month. iOS 11 has some big changes in it and so we’ll be spending quite a bit of time with it to see what it’s got.

In Canberra we have a very interesting session lined up. The First Nation Peoples, particularly those at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, love apple computers. Alastair, an ACTApple member involved with the embassy, will host a session with the current embassy caretaker, Nioka Coe Craigie, daughter of Billy Craigie to share what they like to do with their Macs and what they would like to do.

After that Tristan will be showing off as many bits of iOS11 as he can pack into an hour. We’ll also aim for a lot of assistance time in the main hall with Mike doing iDevice Q&A and then others giving one-on-one help for those non-iOS11 people.

In Port Mac Julie will be showing off how she used the Notes app when travelling. Notes is a hidden gem across all the Apple devices. I also use it extensively. So come along and find out why. We’ll follow this with a video showing off iOS11. This is an excellent video that has a very straightforward demonstration of the new functions. Neil will also be doing his regular iDevice Q&A.

Then of course we’ve got a whole afternoon in Moruya coming up. It will be good to catch up with everyone again. We’ve not been down there for a few months so we’re expecting lots of activity!

Following on from last month we’ve got lots in the newsletter about security, again! Are we picking up a theme yet? 🙂

So! Lots on again. I hope you all have an enjoyable meeting and we’ll see you soon.

Enjoy,

regards
