October Newsletter & Meetings

hi all!
the October newsletter is now available for members.

We have a bit of variety at our meetings this month. iOS 11 has some big changes in it and so we’ll be spending quite a bit of time with it to see what it’s got.

In Canberra we have a very interesting session lined up. The First Nation Peoples, particularly those at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy, love apple computers. Alastair, an ACTApple member involved with the embassy, will host a session with the current embassy caretaker, Nioka Coe Craigie, daughter of Billy Craigie to share what they like to do with their Macs and what they would like to do.

After that Tristan will be showing off as many bits of iOS11 as he can pack into an hour. We’ll also aim for a lot of assistance time in the main hall with Mike doing iDevice Q&A and then others giving one-on-one help for those non-iOS11 people.

In Port Mac Julie will be showing off how she used the Notes app when travelling. Notes is a hidden gem across all the Apple devices. I also use it extensively. So come along and find out why. We’ll follow this with a video showing off iOS11. This is an excellent video that has a very straightforward demonstration of the new functions. Neil will also be doing his regular iDevice Q&A.

Then of course we’ve got a whole afternoon in Moruya coming up. It will be good to catch up with everyone again. We’ve not been down there for a few months so we’re expecting lots of activity!

Following on from last month we’ve got lots in the newsletter about security, again! Are we picking up a theme yet? 🙂

So! Lots on again. I hope you all have an enjoyable meeting and we’ll see you soon.

Enjoy,

regards

August Newsletter & Meetings

Hi all!
the August newsletter is now available to members. Some excellent articles this month, including a guest contribution from our friends at the Southern Highlands group up near Bowral.

We’re also looking forward to a busy night in Cbr this week, thanks to Geoff who’ll be hosting a round-table on his very informative “50 tips” topic, and Tristan who (having persevered with an email topic for us a few months ago) is allowed to have some fun at last with a session on Photos.

Port Mac gets to enjoy another new topic this month, with Linda doing a session on her favourite and most useful apps. These sort of “my favourite” sessions are always well received. No matter how many apps I think I’ve seen, someone always has a really useful one I’ve not seen before. Neil will also be talking about scams and how to avoid them – a topic that I think he’ll be revisiting a few times because the scammers just don’t want to go away.

Enjoy,

regards

April Newsletter and Meeting

hi all!
April newsletter now available to members  here, with some enjoyable new articles and so a big thumbs UP! from me 🙂

A little later than he’d like but like all of us even our dedicated editor’s time gets squeezed too hard occasionally.

A few notes for all…

  1. “Members Make The Meeting”?? You bet! Coming to you in June! But I’m told it’s already started in Port with some enjoyable newbie presenters having a go on the weekend with great success.
  2. In Cbr Trev will be going over Photos on the iPad, but we’ve also had a few people asking about iTunes so I’ll do an informal round-table for iTunes in the main hall.
  3. Looks like Don (one of our Port members) is starting to enjoy his cartooning pursuit more and more. Well done Don! Keep them coming!
  4. And a thought for David Knowles…maybe you’d enjoy a visit to www.discogs.com? I’m guessing you’d have some vinyl records and Discogs has a great way for you to document/value your whole collection. Perfect gift for the avid record-keeper 🙂
  5. Don’t forget our discount code to O’reilly books for some of the best technical and ‘how-to’ books you can get (code in the newsletter).

Enjoy,

regards
